Palace to Palace Bike Ride

Lou and Fi’s Palace to Palace bike ride for the Prince’s Trust

On the morning of Sunday 2nd October our Head of Ops, Louise Gruchy-Craven and Project Director, Fiona Gruchy-Craven embarked on a 45-mile Palace to Palace bike ride in aid of the Prince’s Trust

Palace to Palace is a cycle ride from Buckingham Palace to Windsor Castle, all in aid of The Prince’s Trust with around 3,800 riders will taking part.

We caught up with Fi and Lou to see how the ride went:

How did you hear about the bike ride?

Lou has done the ride three times before and really enjoyed it and we are always looking for a challenge and our next mini adventure together.

lfweb2 Palace to Palace Bike RideHave you done it before? If so, when/ how many times?

It was Fi’s first time doing this race, but Louise’s fourth. Fi has done two London to Brighton rides before, and Lou has done one for the British Heart Foundation. Fi even took part in the first night ride from London to Brighton.

Why did you want to take part/ what’s special about this one?

We both enjoy biking and it’s my favourite past time. So, why not combine this with raising money for charity. The ride is relatively easy, takes you through some lovely towns and the countryside as you escape London, and was very well run.

What did you enjoy about the ride?

We had a beautiful day for it and decided to go for an early start time which meant that we weren’t competing with a lot of people on the roads. You go through some beautiful countryside and follow the Thames for much of the way. There are plenty of stops where you can swap stories, get a boost from a banana and get your bike fixed if needed.

Best moment from the ride?

Getting to the finish when we crossed the finish line together after completing another mini adventure. Also the free massage at the end, helped with our recovery.

lfweb3 Palace to Palace Bike RideMeet anyone interesting?

There were a few people doing the ride on a tandems, some people on Bromptons and there were even people doing it on rickshaws!!!

Funniest moment from the ride?

Watching a bloke cross the line in a purple cape and underpants!!!

Tips for people getting into cycling/ doing a similar thing.

I would totally recommend doing any sort of ride, there were many people of all ages and abilities taking part and what’s lovely about biking is that you can go at your own speed, enjoy the countryside and its something good for you at the same time. Everyone helps each other along the way, with encouragement, music and helping to fix flat tyres as you go around the course.
